This rare and beautiful Classic 1977 BMW R100RS is very clean and well detailed and very well cared for; a bike you can really be proud to be riding. The serial number shows it to be the 80’th one built. Metzeler tires are in good condition. Exhaust is very nice. The aluminum cases and other cast parts are all bright and corrosion free.
At some point in the past, the bike was re-painted the original light blue color, but with a gloss finish, instead of the original matt finish. The finish is in good condition overall, with very few extremely minor blemishes.
The motor has been dual plugged, and the flywheel has been lightened; it is VERY responsive! A Major factory 10K service was just completed, plus we have done extensive service and repair work from front to back and inside out. It is now ready for a season of care-free riding.
We bored the cylinders to first over and the heads were rebuilt. While the top was off we inspected the rod lower bearing clearance and found they were in very good condition. The engine was re-sealed front to back, top to bottom. The rear main seal, flywheel O-ring and oil pump O-ring were replaced, and while we were there we inspected the oil pump, cleaned and inspected the clutch (it was very good) and lubed the clutch splines.
We rebuilt the front forks, installed new neck bearings, and both wheels got new bearings properly shimmed, greased, and new seals. Speaking of wheels; the very rare original 1977 R100RS ONLY Silver painted wire wheels with blue pinstripe are still installed, and are in good cosmetic condition.
The instrument set was reconditioned. New fairing / fork gators were installed. All other rubber boots are soft and crack-free. New original braided fuel lines were installed.
There is a tool tray with snap on rubber lid, but no tool kit. There is an under-seat air pump. A new battery has just been installed. All electrics work perfectly.
This bike would make an excellent and stylish daily commuter or a weekend tourer. The 1000cc motor has plenty of power for high speed two up riding or for pushing it hard through the twisties.
