1977 BMW R100RS, Original Factory Light Blue, blue calipers, blue pinstripe on grey spoke rims. Koni shocks. Lightened flywheel, Dual Plug conversion.

This beautiful BMW with original full sport fairing was first released by BMW in 1977. This model is the first ever motorcycle to come stock with a full fairing, and the first motorcycle with integral fairing that was wind tunnel designed. VERY Ground Breaking at the time!

In Europe, many of them saw service with the Police, and it was especially used on the German Audobahn where there is no speed limit. The models with 40mm exhaust headers were especially good for top speed performance. This BMW has the standard size 38mm exhaust headers; still good for top end, but better for US legal speeds.

The light blue semi-matt paint finish was unique to this year and model BMW, was as well the grey painted wheel rims with beautiful blue pinstripe, and the matching blue front brake calipers.

This model also has the most powerful stock engine in the BMW Airhead line. Handling is superb for a 1977 motorcycle. The short & low bars force a slight forward lean, which also forces a straight back. The position is excellent for people with lower back pain. The foot position is very conservitave, making the riding position much more comfortable for longer distances that the typical sport bike rear-set position.

This particular 1977 BMW R100RS is a 1 owner bike. All VIN numbers match. The title is clear. The engine block is marked that it is a "CFO" Model (California compliant). The flywheel has been lightened for a sportier throttle response. A "Dual Plug" ignition upgrade has been done, and a Dyna electronic ignition installed. It has Koni rear shocks, MAC Chrome exhaust headers, and very nice chrome OEM Mufflers. There is a tool tray, but no tool kit. We have 3 copies of the ignition key (1 folding), but none for the fuel cap,  seat latch, or fork lock. There is a shallow 1" notch burnt into the edge of two bars of the center lower "Grill" where somebody let it fall into a hot exhaust. The fairing has the original clock and volt meter installed in the dash. The Metzeller tires are in near new condition. The seat is equipped with the small BMW black grab rail / rack.

This bike had been stored for "4 or 5" years before we got it in for a Service / rehab to put it back on the street. When we were done, the owner asked us to buy the bike. Once we owned the bike, we decided that there were several additional things that also needed work, to get it ready for resale.

This bike has just had Major 10K Service, full carburetor rebuild, new batery, new rear main seal and oil pump o'ring, inspect & clean clutch, and replace weak diaphram spring. We resealed the motor top end and de-carboned the cylinder heads and piston tops. We repaired the high beam wiring connection to make it work, and replaced the headlight relay. We rebuilt both petcocks, and installed new Continental braided cloth covered fuel lines. We rebuilt the leaky left front brake caliper. We serviced the instruments, repaired the odometer, and re-set it to the actual of 39,769 miles.

The fuel cap was rusted to the top of the fuel opening, and impossible to open. Once it was forced open by destroying the fuel cap, we discovered that the inside of the tank was very rusty, with numerous holes in the bottom, and a failed "KREEM" Latex fuel tank sealant making the tank impossible to repair. Because of the total we already had invested in the BMW, we could not afford a new paint job, so we found a very good black fuel tank, and covered it with a period tank cover to hide the black paint. We still have the bad blue tank if somebody wanted to make heroic efforts to save it.

Finally, we installed a new Clearview light smoke colored standard height windshield with a 4" built in air deflector. Then we took it for a long test ride.

The bike has plenty of power, brakes are excellent for period design, handling is precise. A real joy to ride; especially through those twisty roads. For top end speed, just crouch behind the windshield, and the bike remains stable through its range.
